As a psychologist, how can you register for license with the State council? Any insight on the procedure?

Ajay Gulzar's avatar

The detailed procedure would be established and communicated after the implementation of the NCAHP Act, 2021.

Thankyou for revert. Do keep me posted on further development of the same.

Hi, What about those who did not do grad in Psych but did masters in psych and are working as a psychologist as of now?

Ajay Gulzar's avatar

There is no clarity on this in the law.

The efforts towards regulation of professions such as Physiotherapy had started as earlier as 2007. None of the earlier documents, such as Paramedical and Physiotherapy Central Councils Bill, 2007 (Lapsed), National Commission for Human Resources for Health Bill, 2011 (Rejected), The report "From Paramedics to Allied Health services: A study of the Allied Health Ecosystem and a roadmap for human resource capacity augmentation" developed by Public Health Foundation of India 2012, 2014: National Board for Allied Health Sciences (NBAHS) proposed in 2014, Allied and Healthcare Professional's Central Council Bill, 2015 had mentioned the profession of Psychologist. The inclusion of Psychologists happened in the 2018 Bill, which clearly demonstrated a lack of application of mind.

You are absolutely right, Doctor.

As a undergraduate psychology student at IGNOU. What can i do to make my voice heard? Who do i write to? Please help with this. I can try and write emails and my batchmates will do the same.

We also work hard, we should also get a chance to practice.

Any thoughts on what's in store for students from non Psychology background who are picking up Psychology at masters level and have already completed 1 year from distance learning at IGNOU - which is a central govt University. Makes no sense that a central govt act should exclude a degree provided by a central govt organisation which is recognised by a central govt body (ugc)

Ajay Gulzar's avatar

I have included the point on distance education degrees in the article. The NCAHP Act 2021 does not recognize them. I have said elsewhere that those with distance degrees should raise their voice and demand before government, but it appears that other than raising concerns in personal conversations, there's nothing being done by them.

Excellent article. We have been discussing these issues with our batchmates and you have covered all our concerns. However, could u provide clarity if phD psychology will help getting registered under NCAHP?

Ajay Gulzar's avatar

That clarity would come from the Rules to be framed. However, the Act focuses on graduation and postgrad training, so most likely, PhD would not be a criterion for eligibility to register.

Absolutely! I have been thinking on the same Question that you raised..
